Swank Space
Problem:
A technology startup, SwankSpace sought to address
an unserved niche in the contract furniture
industry-a small company seeking to furnish a new
office space with a simple drag-and-drop interface.
Small companies, like technology start-ups, simply
wanted a flat surface to work on, walls for semi-privacy,
comfortable chairs, and, if everything matched-a bonus!
They resented the small design firms and the myriad
of decisions necessary for contract furniture. They
wanted an Ikea furniture type of experience.

Solution:
The SwankSpace
product design included three key elements:
1) pre-designed "sets" of cubical office units,
2) the ability of users to mix and match cubical
or conference room elements within the same "family," and
3) a step-wise approach that allowed the user to
build an entire office space. On the back end, the
application integrated with furniture manufacturers,
a shipping company, and an installation company. The
solution also allowed small design firms to manage
simple customer designs using an online review tool.
